CHECK MATE

Another day, another remake.
After years and years of speculation, it was formally announced that the beloved, spam in cabin, horror/cult classic, The Evil Dead is getting remade. However, unlike most remakes of recent horror classics, the creative braintrust behind the original are behind this particular remake and in fact producing the effort. Yes, Sam Raimi (writer/director), Robert Tapert (Producer) and Bruce Campbell (Ash) are producing and even picked the remake’s director, Fede Alvarez (watch Alvarez’s short film Panic Attack).
Alvarez penned the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues (co-writer on Panic Attack) and surprisingly being rewritten by Oscar winner Diablo Cody. Sure, this could be a red flag for some. Why would a simple, slam bang, spam in a cabin movie need revisions from Diablo Cody? Well, why not? Sure, there may be an underlying fear that Cody is just going to punch up the dialogue and just ‘slang’ shit up or we could focus on the positive aspect of this nugget of news. Sure, Jennifer’s Body was bit of a mess, but how much of that was on Cody’s material or the under whelming direction of Karyn Kusama? On the page, Jennifer’s Body had a American Werewolf in London vibe, but on screen, it felt like Juno with forced gore. So, let’s not worry about Diablo Cody being involved. If Jason Reitmann was involved, then we should panic.
Perhaps, the biggest save grace for this project is the involvement of Raimi, Tapert, and Campbell. If they’re behind it, then we should feel comfortable and excited about this film. Raimi will make sure there’s a cameo by The Classic and the gore and the scares are there.
There are bigger things to worry about in this film world than a remake of The Evil Dead. As the popular internet meme says, “Chill Out. I got this,” but just imagine Bruce Campbell saying it.

First image of The Hobbit’s dwarves
The first image of Nori, Dori and Ori, The Hobbit’s sibling trio of badass dwarves, has just been revealed.
With filming well underway for Peter Jackon’s return to Middle-earth, the release of this tantalising press shot is practically mouth-watering.
We especially like all the hair, facial and otherwise. Hairdressers should probably expect ‘star-shaped’ to be the in-look next season…
